The Environmental Studies Program is looking to hire TWO new Student Peer Advisor to join the ES Program Advising team for the 2016-2017 academic year. Working as a Peer Advisor is a challenging and exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience in the counseling field. Peer Advisors learn about the many opportunities offered within environmental studies, work with faculty and fellow peers, and make a valuable contribution to the Environmental Studies Program community. 

Job Description: Environmental Studies Peer Advisors serve a critical role assisting students fulfill their desire to graduate as an Environmental Studies or Hydrologic Sciences major. Under the supervision of the Academic & Internship Coordinator they advise students about major requirements, course selection, university policies, academic internships, environmental careers, graduate school, and how to pursue education abroad and international environmental field studies opportunities. They also maintain a career resource library, update the ES advising webpage, and participate in a variety of department outreach and information sessions. Other administrative duties and special projects are assigned as needed. The job is for a minimum of one academic year beginning Fall, 2016, with initial training sessions provided during the second half of the current Spring quarter. 

Qualifications: Candidates should be an Environmental Studies or Hydrologic Sciences major with at least sophomore standing and have a minimum GPA of 2.75. They must be able to hold the position for at least one full academic year and work approximately 8-10 hours per week (two to three hour sessions, three to four days).

Other desirable qualifications include:

- enthusiasm for the ES Program and studying the environment 
- desire to help others understand and navigate the bureaucracy of UCSB
- strong verbal and communication skills - excellent listening skills
- strong organizational skills
- high level of initiative, motivation, and responsibility

Training and Compensation: The newly hired Peer Advisor(s) receive initial training during the second half of the Spring quarter and then work 8 to 10 hours a week during the upcoming academic year. Compensation will be at a rate of $11.00/hour.
