Environmental Studies faculty member Iris Holzer was selected as a Lead Author for the 2027 IPCC Methodology Report on Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. She recently returned from the first Lead Author Meeting in Rome, where she met with a team of 139 authors who are responsible for updating international guidance for determining countries’ national carbon emissions and removals. Iris is part of the soils group, and she is working with global collaborators to write guidance on enhanced silicate weathering, the liming of agricultural soils, and soil inorganic carbon. The next Lead Author Meeting will take place in Mexico City in August, and the final report will be submitted for adoption by the 194 member countries in late 2027.
